Joseph Haydn was born 1732 at Rohrau (Lower Austria), and died 1809 at Vienna. He spent about 3 years in England. Classic composer of Sonatas, based on the style of Ph. Em. Bach. Wrote much Chamber-music, many Symphonies, famous Oratorios ("Seasons" and Creations"). Hilarity is one of the chief characteristics of his music. (Australian Music Examinations Board, Pianoforte Grade III, 1932) There was no question of using any other instruments -as I have done with some from this collection- for this piece but the piano. This short piece contains many surprises in melody, rhythm, and a general pause of four beats. MOZART's feature of not playing repeats in a da capo section comes in very handy here.
