"Rule Britannia" was taken from "The Community Sing-Song Book", Keith Prowse & Co. Ltd., London W1, 1927, arr. Ernest Newton, The First Complete Edition de Luxe. I researched the attributions for the work ("Alfred") and the words (J. Thomson) and the related biographical data on the Internet. The playback of all three verses is achieved through three repeat-ending sections, the first and second of which being identical. I also remembered that David Webber's MOZART program came with a sample file of three variations on Rule Britannia by David's daughter Jennifer from 1993 for recorder. Using MOZART's tools, I was able to combine the two. This involved the transposition of the piano score from A to C and the doubling in length of every note in Jennifer's score. The latter was done in Cakewalk. This combined version is published here with Jennifer's permission. I suggest you ask her if you want to use the variations for anything else than strictly private use. You can probably contact her via David Webber's e-mail address which you can find on his web site (http://www.mozart.co.uk/). Brisbane, April 2003 Michael Bednarek http://mcmbednarek.tripod.com/
