ANSTATT DASS-SONG I think the film version (Curd Jrgens, Hildegard Knef) takes the first part (Anstatt dass) at double the recommended 1/4=100 time, and only the second part (Das ist der Mond ber Soho) at that speed. I think that makes for a very good dramatic effect, but as there is no indication for it in the score, I didn't use that. So after the opening number we have of course now a duet. A chief of a band of beggars and his wife muse cynically on the detrimental effect of blind love on the proper conduct of one's life. It is of course their daughter Polly who will fall for the low-life Macheath, and they will whisper those exact words into each other's ear (Nr. 8 LIEBESLIED)- although then in a rather melancholic way.
